A truck driver hauling chickens is facing multiple charges after his rig was struck by an oncoming train.
The wreck happened at approximately 6:45 a.m. on Peggy Neck Road in Princess Anne, Maryland.
According to Delmarva Now, 37-year-old Franklin Alberto Baez-Slorian was driving an Amek Poultry truck in wet and cold conditions, when he tried to cross the train tracks on Peggy Neck Road near Route 13. As he was crossing, the back of his trailer was struck by an oncoming train, breaking open the chicken coops and allowing some live chickens to escape.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
Crews spent several hours wrangling chickens and cleaning up the debris from the wreck, reducing the nearby Route 13 north to one lane. All lanes had been reopened by early Wednesday morning.
The exact reason for the crash has not been released, but Baez-Slorian faces charges of negligence, interfering with a transit vehicle, crossing tracks unsafely, and stopping within 50 feet of the tracks.
