A truck driver is dead after his rig was struck by a train at a crossing without any safety arms or warning lights.
The incident occurred on Thursday, December 7th at approximately 10 a.m. in Caldwell, Idaho.
According to Idaho State Police, 61-year-old Floyd C. Gibson was driving his 1997 Kenworth semi truck south on Look Lane hauling gravel when he approached a rail road crossing. At the crossing, Gibson failed to yield at the stop sign and was struck by a train heading east.
The force of the impact threw Gibson from his rig and overturned the truck, killing him on scene.
Crews spent several hours clearing the debris from the scene, but the accident has since been cleared.
Following the incident, police are reminding drivers to use extra caution around train crossings, especially in rural areas where rail road crossing arms are installed less often.
