A McDonald’s semi truck ended up in a roadside barn after its driver choked on coffee and blacked out behind the wheel.
It happened on Saturday, September 30th at approximately 6:45 a.m. in Madras, Oregon.
According to KTVZ, truck driver Michael Plumondore was driving a McDonald’s truck on Highway 26 when he began choking on his coffee. The choking caused Plumondore to black out and lose control of the truck, sending it swerving off of the highway and into the side of a nearby barn. The force of the crash ripped a rear axle off of the truck and damaged a side of the barn, compromising several trusses and part of the barn’s roof.
Plumondore then awoke in the stopped truck and called emergency service to report the incident.
No one was injured in the accident.
The McDonald’s truck caused a sort of traffic jam as motorists slowed to gawk at the big red trailer with giant french fries on the side.
“We’re just thankful nobody was coming in the opposite direction,” said Debbie Volle, owner of the 125 acres ‘Healthy Hay 4 Horses’ farm.
Volle says that with the roof damaged, some of the hay inside the barn may have to be disposed of.
“We [still] have a third cutting of hay that needs to be put in that barn,” she continued.
Plumondore was cited for failure to maintain his lane.
