A Fedex truck driver was cited Sunday following a wreck that left his trailer hanging off the side of an overpass.
The accident happened at approximately 5:20 a.m. on December 10th in Abingdon, Virginia.
Virginia State Police say that a Fedex truck hauling double trailers was traveling south on Interstate 81 near exit 14 when he lost control, overturning the rig and sending one of the double trailers over the side of the overpass.
According to WSLS, the force of the impact ruptured one of the fuel tanks, spilling diesel across the roadway, but the driver was not seriously injured in the incident. Initially, the 47-year-old truck driver, Brian Hicks, refused treatment from medical personnel, but he was later transported to a hospital with minor injuries.
The road below the over pass, Old Jones Road, was shut down for several hours as crews worked to clear the debris and right the overturned rig, but has since been reopened.
Hicks has been charged with one count of reckless driving.
