
A truck driver says he blacked out before crashing into a bank sign in Illinois on Wednesday.
The accident happened on January 10th at approximately 8:05 a.m. in Freeburg, Illinois.
According to The Belleville News-Democrat, the driver called 911 himself and explained to dispatchers that he had blacked out while driving, sending his rig crashing through the brick and metal sign outside of Midland States Bank on State Street.
“When we arrived on scene there were people assisting him out of the truck,” said Freeburg Police Chief Michael J. Schutzenhofer.
The unidentified truck driver works for Walt’s Drive-A-Way Services based out of Evansville, Indiana. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. No other injuries have been reported.
As of Thursday, the investigation into the incident was still ongoing, and no citations have been issued.
