A truck driver was busted with more than 22 pounds of cocaine after he was stopped for bypassing a weigh station.

It happened on westbound Interstate 94 in Grass Lake, Michigan.

According to Michigan Live, a Michigan State Trooper was working at Grass Lakes scales on Tuesday, August 22nd when he noticed a semi truck drive past a weigh station.

The trooper pulled the tractor trailer over and found the driver, 58-year-old Jose Luis Vega, trying to complete his log book and “acting strangely,” police say.

Vega then consented to a police search of his truck. Troopers used police K-9s to search the truck and found 10 plastic wrapped, 1-kilogram bricks of cocaine hidden in a closet inside the cab.

Vega was arrested and held on $250,000 bond.

On Thursday, August 31st, authorities moved the case from the 12th District Court to the US District Court. Vega will be charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

These are not the first drug charges Vega has faced. Back in 2001, he was convicted of drug possession and evading arrest. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison at that time.
