A truck driver and her passenger were killed early Thursday morning after colliding head on with a bridge pillar in Colorado.
The accident happened on April 12th at approximately 7:25 a.m. in Kit Carson County, Colorado.
According to 9 News, the semi truck was traveling on Interstate 70 westbound when, for unknown reasons, the big rig left the road way and crashed into the center pillars of the CO 59 bridge near mile marker 405, crushing the cab of the tractor trailer.
Both the 47-year-old female truck driver and her 33-year-old male passenger were transported to a nearby hospital following the wreck, but both soon succumbed to their injuries.
I-70 and CO 59 were shut down for several hours as crews worked to inspect and repair the bridge. Both roadways have since been reopened and the bridge deemed fully functional.
The identities of the two killed have not been released and it is not yet clear whether the two were driving partners or simply a driver and passenger. The exact cause of the wreck is still under investigation.
