A truck driver is dead after being struck by a train while backing into a loading dock situated dangerously close to a railroad crossing.
The accident happened on Thursday, November 30th at approximately 12:00 p.m. in Seminole County, Florida.
According to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, an unidentified truck driver was trying to make a delivery to ACF Environmental when he backed over the train tracks near the loading dock and was struck by the train. The force of the impact destroyed the tractor trailer and scattered pieces along the train tracks, ejecting the driver from the cab of the truck.
The truck driver was killed in the impact, but only 2 other minor injuries were reported.
Police say people were screaming at the driver to get out, but by the time he opened the cab door it was too late. The driver was attempting to exit the truck when the train hit.
Locals say that semi trucks frequently must back over the train tracks to make deliveries to that location, reported WESH.
The semi truck was hauling wood stakes and mesh at the time of the accident.
The incident is still under investigation and the driver’s name is being withheld pending notification of his family.
