A truck driver is dead after running a red light and crashing into another tractor trailer this morning.

The accident happened at approximately 11:06 a.m. on November 2nd in Holland Township, Michigan.

According to The Holland Sentinel, 47-year-old Timothy Kardux was driving his Grassmid Transport semi truck north on 120th avenue when he came to the Riley Street intersection. Kardux had a green light, so he continued through the intersection.

As he was passing through the green light, another semi driver approached the intersection traveling west on Riley Street. That truck driver then ran the red light and barreled through the intersection, crashing into Kardux’s rig and splitting open the trailer.

The trucker who ran the red light died in the crash.  His identity has been withheld, pending notification of his family.

Kardux sustained only minor injuries and was treated on scene.

An investigation is currently underway to determine why the driver ran the light.

As of 3:30 p.m., 120th avenue at Riley Street was still closed as crews worked to clean up the debris, mop up the diesel fuel, and remove the wrecked semi trucks.
