Chances are you’ve seen this video posted by truck driver Brian M. Wilds, floating around Facebook. Wilds recorded a snake slithering on his windshield and around to his driver’s side window while he was driving down the highway.

The video was viewed nearly 3,000,000 times and received thousands of comments. But Wilds learned a lesson the hard way, that going viral on the internet can have unforeseen circumstances. He updated the caption to one of the two videos to explain the unfortunate events that occurred after the video spread like wildfire.

The caption reads:

Hello friends! I appreciate all the love I’ve gotten this week from the 2 vids I posted. They’ve gotten nearly 2 million views, millions of likes and shares. Right now I have well over 1000 friend request which I don’t fully understand why. Hell…I’ve been contacted by by an online magazine lol Many of the request have come from other truck drivers. With that being said I want to warn my friends especially my brothers and sisters who are Professional Truck Drivers. I was fired yesterday from job because of the videos. Yep, operating a hand held device while operating a Comercial Vehicle. I never thought when I pulled out my phone to video my experience that 2 million people would see it. Just my circle of friends. Who knew that a snake on your hood would go viral? The safety department didn’t think it was cute. Not looking for sympathy. What I did was dumb being a “professional” driver. Everything happens for a reason right? I have now loaded the videos to YouTube so everyone can see. So go there and view it and continue to share. Maybe there will be a silver lining. Take care.

According to the driver, after the video went viral on Faceboook, his employer got a hold of it and he was fired from his job soon after. The reason? Operating a hand held device while driving a commercial vehicle.

He wrote that he’s “not looking for sympathy”, merely looking out for his trucking brothers and sisters and warning them to think twice before pulling out their phones to record something while driving.

Do you think firing the driver for filming a snake on his truck was an appropriate move or was it an overreaction by his company? Let us know your thoughts below.
