A truck driver was arrested for dumping 1,000 bushels of corn on a Nebrasksa highway after being fired through text message earlier this year.
Court documents revealed that on August 8th, 36-year-old truck driver Darren Walp of Pennsylvania was hauling a load of corn in Beatrice, Nebraska while engaging in a text message conversation with the owner of B & T Livingston Trucking.
After a series of texts, Walp received a final message stating “Pack your stuff ASAP and you can leave…”
According to The Washington Times, shortly after reading the message “he stopped the truck, got out and opened the grain trailer’s bottom hatch doors.”
He then drove down Nebraska Highway 8 for a quarter-mile, spilling nearly 1,000 bushels of corn on the road. The value of the spilled load was estimated at $3,100. The spill caused the highway to be temporarily closed for cleanup.
On November 14th, Walp was arrested on a warrant and charged with felony criminal mischief and depositing materials on a roadway. He’s expected back in court on December 20th.
