A truck driver is dead after a motorist drifted out of their lane and struck the oncoming semi truck.

It happened on Thursday, October 12th in Wadsworth, Illinois at approximately 5:10 a.m.

According to The Chicago Tribune, a 65-year-old unnamed trucker was driving his Volvo semi truck west on Russell Road near Park Lane when a Jeep traveling east on Russell Road crossed the double yellow lines and struck the oncoming tractor trailer. The force of the impact sent the tractor trailer crashing into a roadside ditch.

Both the truck driver and the driver of the Jeep were transported to a nearby hospital.

The truck driver was pronounced dead a short while later.

The driver of the Jeep was treated and released. She is currently cooperating with police investigations.

Police have not revealed why she crossed into oncoming traffic, and have not specified if any charges will be filed.

The tractor trailer was heavily damaged in the incident.

The roadway was shut down for several hours as crews cleared the scene, but has since been reopened.
