A truck driver was arrested and charged with his 4th DUI after striking a guardrail and causing a large brush fire.
The accident happened on Sunday, October 29th at approximately 2:38 a.m. in New Castle, Delaware.
According to the Delaware State Police, 55-year-old truck driver Jeffery B. Mosier was hauling construction equipment on Interstate 95 northbound when he began merging onto Interstate 295. Mosier then lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a guardrail, causing the truck to overturn and catch fire.
The fire then spread to the nearby vegetation and grew, causing parts of the Basin Road overpass to catch fire.
Mosier was able to exit the vehicle before emergency crews arrived and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. He was then taken to a police station, where he was charged with his 4th DUI offense, as well as Refusing a Breath/Blood Test While Operating a Commercial Motor Vehicle and Failure to Remain Within a Single Lane.
Mosier was previously charged with DUI’s in 2010, 2011, and 2014.
Mosier has since been arraigned and is currently being held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institute on $6,300 cash bond.
The area of the I-95 and I-295 split was shut down for approximately 7 hours as crews worked to quench the fire and clean up the wreckage.
