The driver of a tractor trailer was arrested and charged with intoxicated manslaughter after allegedly parking his rig in the middle of the highway, causing a fatal wreck with a pickup truck.

The incident happened on Tuesday, November 7th at approximately 2:30 a.m. in Dallas, Texas.

According to The Dallas Observer, 37-year-old Dwayne Simon was driving in the middle lane of northbound US 75 at Interstate 365, otherwise known as the High Five Interchange, when he suddenly stopped his rig. Simon then parked his tractor trailer in the middle of the dark highway without turning on his flashers, making the stopped semi truck difficult to see.

A Chevy Silverado soon drove into the back of the rig, killing the motorist on impact.

Simon was not injured in the incident, but witnesses report that he then “began pacing around the truck, apparently incoherent.”

Dallas Police Department officers soon arrived on scene and began questioning Simon, who explained that “he’d been driving north on U.S. 75 when he experienced mechanical problems that made it impossible to continue driving the truck.”

Police later discovered that the big rig was fully functional at the time of the crash.

Simon was then administered a field sobriety test at the scene of the crash, the results of which showed that Simon was under the influence of drugs.

Officers then took Simon into custody and booked him into the Dallas County Jail, where he faces charges of intoxication manslaughter. No bail has been set.

All northbound lanes of US 75 at I-365 were shut down for several hours as crews investigated the incident and cleaned up the wreckage. They have since been reopened.
