A truck driver was arrested after firing a gun in a rest stop in Alpha, Illinois before leading police on a 25-mile chase.
It happened on Wednesday, October 18th, at approximately 9:45 p.m. at the westbound Krisdala Baka rest area on Interstate 74.
According to WQAD, police were called to the rest area when 22-year-old Khalid R. Hunter began firing shots at the ground. Hunter fired off several rounds before climbing into a tractor trailer and leaving the scene.
A witness followed the big rig in their personal vehicle, keeping track of Hunter’s whereabouts until police arrived.
Officers were able to stop the semi truck on Interstate 80 in Rapid City, Illinois, over 25 miles away.
Hunter and his passenger Luther Mellville were then removed from the cab of the truck along with a gun.
Troopers determined that Mellville was not involved in the shooting of the gun and released him from custody.
Hunter is currently being held on $25,000 bond for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful use of a weapon, and unlawful possession of ammunition.
