Connecticut State Police released this dash cam footage of a collision as a reminder to “expect the unexpected” while on the road. It happened on Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 91 in Windsor Locks, Connecticut.

The clip shows a police cruiser approaching a motorcycle and a semi truck, before swerving and crashing into a highway barrier on the left. Although it’s difficult to distinguish exactly how it all happened in the short clip, state police blamed blamed the truck driver for the incident.

According to police, the truck driver made an “unsafe lane change,” forcing the motorcyclist to the left, which led to the collision. The truck driver was ticketed.

Yesterday, August 31, 2016 around 1:30 PM, a trooper from Troop H – Hartford was patrolling north on I-91 south of exit 42 in Windsor Locks. As you’ll see in the video, a simple lane change set off a chain of events which resulted in the trooper swerving to avoid a motorcyclist, colliding with the concrete center divider and then colliding with the tractor-trailer. Luckily, only minor injuries were reported. The operator of the tractor-trailer was found to be at fault for the collision and was issued an infraction ticket for unsafe lane change.

The video was viewed over 50,000 times, but some of the top user comments speculated that the officer’s driving may have been a contributing factor in the crash.

what was the Troopers speed? It would appear that he was traveling much faster than the traffic in the next closest lane. Was he on his way to a call under lights and siren? If not it would seem that his speed was a contributing factor in the accident.

Just from an observational side…the way the police car jerked to the left is indicative of someone who was not paying attention…over reacted…then overcompensated. If you see how fluid and smooth the bike and TT are maneuvering…and then the highway patrol…

Bold move citing the TT considering…and the speed…etc

The officer, 27-year old trooper Aaron Pelletier was taken to the hospital to treat minor injuries. No one else was injured.
