Highway 290 was shut down in Houston for more than seven hours Wednesday morning after a tractor trailer blew a tire, sending it veering into a wreck that set the rig on fire.

The accident occurred on May 30th at around 12:30 a.m. in Houston, Texas.

According to ABC 13 News Houston, the semi truck was driving along Highway 290, otherwise known as the Northwest Freeway, at Mueschke when one of its tires suddenly blew, sending the rig veering across the highway before it struck a guard rail, rupturing the fuel tank and sending the big rig up in flames.

The unnamed truck driver was able to escape without serious injuries.

The tractor trailer was hauling wooden furniture at the time of the wreck, prolonging the fire, destroying the big rig, and forcing emergency crews to bring in a tanker and three extra units in order to provide them with enough water to put out the fire.

Traffic was diverted off of Highway 290 until about 7:30 a.m. but the freeway has since been reopened.
