Overdrive Magazine recently unveiled a list that explains which states have the most and least intensive inspections for truck drivers. In 2015, the nation experienced a slight rise in total inspections by less than a percentage point. When examined by intensity, the variation state by state was noteworthy.

This chart depicts the top states that stand out.

The chart is calculated by dividing the number of truck inspections by the number of lane-miles.

The top ten most intensely enforced states are:

  1. Maryland
  2. California
  3. Texas
  4. Arizona
  5. Washington
  6. New Mexico
  7. Kentucky
  8. Mississippi
  9. Connecticut
  10. New York

The top ten least intensely enforced states are:

  1. Idaho
  2. Massachusetts
  3. North Dakota
  4. Wyoming
  5. Virginia
  6. Oklahoma
  7. Wisconsin
  8. Minnesota
  9. Alabama
  10. Vermont

The police icon dictates that police enforcement is intense, with 60% or greater inspections conducted after a truck is stopped. The scale icon means that 60% or greater inspections are conducted by scales at weigh stations.

This data comes from the 2015 conducted inspections reported to the federal system.
