When you’re used to something always being there, it’s easy to take it for granted. As Americans, we enjoy a high quality of life. But how often does the public really stop to think about how it’s all made possible?
So much depends on the trucking industry for survival. Yet many truckers still feel the sting of skewed business practices which treat them far less than fairly. Some even feel dehumanized, and invisible to the world that relies so heavily on them.
Uploaded by Be Prepared to Stop, the film “Five Days Without a Truck” demonstrates the reality of what would happen if the trucking system were to suddenly fail. The video consists of a day-by-day countdown which shows the progressively worsening effects of a truckless society.
The video takes its audience on a journey from day one—where grocery stores run out of milk, and medications are no longer available.
Each passing day, the situation becomes more desperate.
On the final day, the film explains that emergency vehicles will run out of gas while garbage piles in the street.
It’s hard for most to imagine that if one link in the chain fails, our entire system will go down in a matter of days. It’s time for the public to stop living in denial. It’s time for truckers to get the respect they deserve.
