Torrential rain and heavy thunderstorms led to devastating flash floods in Kern County, California on Thursday.
While still photos and aerial videos captured some of the mayhem that occurred in the area, one truck driver’s cell phone recording shows what it was like to be stuck in the middle of the flooding on State Route 58.
Truck driver Jose Antonio Vargas posted this video on Facebook showing the absolute chaos on the road. According to the driver’s Facebook comments, he made it out safely after being stuck on the road for several hours. The video was shared more than 25,000 times on Facebook in less than 24 hours.
The flooding resulted in the closure of several important highways. On Friday, nearly a thousand semi trucks were stuck in gridlock due to road closures on State Route 58. Portions of Interstate 5 have also been closed. Some of the closures are expected to last days, if not weeks, according to California Highway Patrol.
