An 18-year-old Louisiana man faces life in prison for shooting and killing a truck driver during a robbery earlier this year.

The indictment was announced on December 6th in Baton Rouge.

Back in August, truck driver Keith Odom was making a repair on his rig while waiting to drop off a delivery when he was robbed and shot by 18-year-old Landry Carter. Carter then ran off, leaving Odom to die. Odom was transported to a nearby hospital but soon succumbed to his injuries.

Now, after reviewing evidence, witness statements, and even linking Carter to several other robberies, officials have indicted Carter on charges of second degree murder. He faces up to a life sentence in prison, reported The Advocate.

“He gave the man his wallet, phone, etc. Why, oh why, did he have to take his life?… Our lives will never be the same. There is a hole in our hearts that will never be filled,” wrote Odom’s parents, Paulette and Kenneth Odom.

Carter’s case has been assigned to Louisiana state District Judge Richard Anderson, but no court date has been announced.
