A tanker truck hung off the edge of an embankment on Thursday after experiencing a major brake failure.

The incident occurred on Thursday, October 19th on Route 101 outside of Willits, California.

According to a California Highway Patrol police report, the empty tanker truck was traveling south on Route 101 when it reached the top of the grade at mile marker 40. The brakes on the tractor trailer then locked up and the truck driver was unable to slow the rig, sending it crashing through a guardrail and over the side of an embankment.

Thankfully, no major injuries were sustained in the incident.

The southbound lanes of Route 101 were closed for several hours as crews worked to retrieve the truck from the ledge. One-way traffic controls had to be put in place to allow both directions of traffic to pass.

One witness described the truck as “hanging by two wheels.”

All lanes of Route 101 has since been reopened.

The driver was identified as 33-year-old Singh Talwinder, of Elk Grove, California.
