A bridge along Interstate 44 at mile marker 129 in Missouri has been closed indefinitely due to water damage.
It happened over the weekend outside of Lebanon, Missouri.
According to KY3, the area experienced high water and flooding from the Gasconade River over the weekend, closing many roadways and generally impeding travel. Much of the water has receded, but the flood left destruction in its wake.
The bridge, though now free from water, has been damaged by the flood and is unfit for use. The asphalt paving the structure has cracked into pieces and the bridge itself must be inspected for structural damage.
The waters of the Gasconade River must continue to recede before Engineers can come in and inspect the bridge. Once the state of the bridge is determined, crews will be called in to make the necessary adjustments and improvements to the roadway.
Any travelers looking to drive across Missouri are being told to use Interstate 70, avoiding I-44 road closures.
Currently, I-44 traffic is being redirected via Route 63 S from Rolla, to Route 60 W to Springfield, to Route 360 W to I-44, and vice versa.
