A large steel coil fell off a tractor trailer and crushed a car during a fatal multi-vehicle accident in Michigan
It happened on southbound US-23, near mile marker 13, on Monday afternoon in Monroe County.
According to Local 4 Detroit news, the tractor-trailer was unable to stop in time and rear-ended a Ford F350 that was stopped because of construction. Upon hitting the Ford, the tractor-trailer driver lost control of the vehicle, causing a heavy steel coil to break free from the cables securing it, crushing a car. The Ford then crashed into another car and that car collided with two other tractor trailers waiting in stopped traffic.
Janet Rheinecker, driver of the Ford, was killed in the crash. No other injuries have been reported.
The accident was cleared and the semi righted after several hours of halted traffic.
