A tractor trailer rear-ended another semi truck that was stopped on the shoulder of Interstate 10 early Thursday morning, resulting in one fatality.
The accident happened on February 1st at approximately 5:15 a.m. in Houston, Texas.
Houston police say that the first semi truck was pulled over to the shoulder on I-10 westbound at Highway 6 due to mechanical issues. The driver had just returned to his cab after putting down the proper emergency signals when the second tractor trailer crashed into the back of the first trailer, forcing the cab of the second truck completely inside the trailer of the first rig.
The driver of the second semi truck was killed in the crash, but no one else was hurt, reported ABC 13.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, however police noted that there were no signs that the driver used his brakes in the moments before the crash.
As of 9:50 a.m., all main lanes of I-10 at Highway 6 near the Barker Cypress exit were closed as officials work to investigate the crash and clear the debris. Traffic is getting by slowly on the shoulder.
