A motorist was seriously injured Tuesday after attempting to exit in front of an oncoming semi truck, causing a serious wreck that caused both vehicles to overturn.
It happened on December 5th at approximately 10:49 a.m. on Interstate 10 in Jackson County, Florida.
According to NWF Daily News, 74-year-old Anita Katy Bishop was driving her SUV east on I-10 when she decided to exit from the center lane. The SUV then cut in front of the semi truck, causing the vehicles to collide. The force of the impact sent the vehicles crashing into the guardrail before overturning, the semi landing nearly on top of the SUV.
Police say that Bishop claims she did not see the 2015 Kenworth tractor trailer when she made a “last minute decision” to exit.
51-year-old trucker Toribio Mendoza was not injured in the incident, but Bishop was transported to a nearby hospital in serious condition. Her current status is not known.
Bishop will be charged with improper lane change.
