Interstate 91 in Vermont will be reduced to one lane for at least a week following a semi truck wreck that destroyed a guardrail.
The accident happened on Tuesday, November 7th on northbound I-91 in Hartland, Vermont.
According to VT Digger, a 2008 Kenworth tractor trailer driven by 38-year-old Arcot Smith was traveling north on I-91 near mile marker 66 when it encountered a bridge. As it was crossing the bridge, the semi truck lost control and struck the east side of the bridge, taking out a large portion of the guardrail.
The rig eventually came to a stop with a portion of the truck hanging off of the bridge and the trailer blocking the roadway.
Smith was not seriously injured in the incident.
“Once contact was made, Smith was unable to steer the truck off the guardrail,” said local police.
“The vehicle damaged a large section of guardrail on the bridge spanning the Ottauquechee River before coming to rest with the truck partially over the bridge with the trailer remaining in the roadway.”
The reason for the wreck is not yet clear.
The Vermont Agency of Transportation Facebook page has since announced that the right lane of I-91 at the Ottauquechee River bridge near mile marker 66 will be closed for “a week or more,” reducing a portion of I-91 north to only 1 lane as crews work to fix the guardrail.
“Expect delays,” the VAT advised.
No further details regarding the projected date of completion have been released.
