A truck driver was killed after driving into an overturned tractor trailer that was blocking the eastbound lanes of Interstate 90.
It happened on Monday, October 2nd at approximately 5:22 a.m. in Wall, South Dakota.
According to the Argus Leader, a 2014 Volvo semi truck was traveling east on Interstate 90 when it lost control and overcorrected, causing the truck to overturn across both lanes of I-90 east. The two men inside the overturned truck, ages 27 and 29, were then able to escape the cab.
An eastbound Freightliner truck pulling double trailers then struck the overturned tractor trailer, killing the 65-year-old driver on impact.
The two men from the overturned truck were taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
The eastbound side of I-90 was shut down for several hours as crews worked to clear up the scene.
Police say charges against the driver of the overturned truck are pending.
The reason why the first truck lost control and overturned is not yet known. The investigation is ongoing.
