A truck driver was arrested in Kentucky on Tuesday after police say he was texting and driving while high on methamphetamine.
The incident occurred on November 28th at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Interstate 65 in Sonora, Kentucky.
Kentucky State Police say that 49-year-old Jimmy Wyrick was driving his big rig south on I-65 when a patrolling officer noticed him swerving in and out of lanes, causing the trooper to pull the tractor trailer over. When confronted, Wyrick denied texting and driving, but as the officer spoke to him, his text message ringer went off, revealing a half-composed text message in the send box. Wyrick was also not wearing a seat belt.
Police say that Wyrick “was struggling to provide the correct paperwork and his body language indicated that he was nervous,” throughout the investigation, but that he gave officers permission to search his truck.
According to WDRB, upon inspection of the rig, officers discovered a bag of methamphetamine hidden inside a container, along with a glass meth pipe. Wyrick, whose pupils were pinpointed at the time of arrest, had difficulty speaking and balancing on one leg, and admitted to having smoked methamphetamine at a rest area the night before.
Wyrick was arrested and is currently being held in the Hardin County Detention Center. He faces charges of careless driving, driving a motor vehicle while texting, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
