A police officer was killed after crashing into a a parked tractor trailer over the weekend.
It happened on Saturday, October 7th at approximately 1 a.m. outside of Auburn, Massachusetts.
According to the Boston Herald, Officer Michael Lee was off-duty when he began driving his 2015 Toyota Tundra south on Interstate 395. At around 1 a.m., the Tundra pickup left its lane and crashed into a 2012 Freightliner semi truck that was stopped in the breakdown lane.
Lee was killed in the accident. The truck driver was not injured.
The truck driver was a 50-year-old man from Central Islip, New York. His name has not been released.
The right lane of I-395 south was shut down until approximately 6:40 a.m.
On the Webster Police Department Facebook page, Lee was described as “an outstanding officer, SWAT operator, investigator, and person… Michael had a way of bringing a smile to everyone’s face the moment he encountered them.”
His funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 11th in Dudley, Massachusetts.
The details of the crash are still under investigation.
