A pickup truck hit a tractor trailer going at least 80 miles an hour in Washington yesterday.

It happened in Lynden, Washington at approximately 3 p.m. at the East Badger and Northwood Road traffic circle.

According to the Bellingham Herald, 37-year-old Cody S. Hodges was driving a ’96 Chevy C25 pickup southbound on Northwood Road when he struck a 2013 Peterbilt tractor trailer that was traveling westbound in the traffic circle.

The pickup was wedged beneath the trailer upon impact.

Washington State Patrol Sgt. Mark Francis states that the “truck’s speedometer was stuck at 80 m.p.h.” which is a potential indicator of Hodges’ speed at the time of the crash. Some witnesses say the truck was traveling as high as 100 mph.

Hodges, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died on impact.

Gilles M. Limoges, the driver of the semi truck, was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the accident.

There was no evidence pointing towards the involvement of drugs or alcohol in the crash.

Skagit News says that no charges will be filed against the truck driver.  The police investigation is still underway.
