A pedestrian has been cited after darting out in front of an oncoming tractor trailer in Delaware on Friday.

The incident occurred on January 26th at approximately 3:26 p.m. in Newark, Delaware.

The Delaware State Police say that a tractor trailer was traveling southbound along Stanton Christiana Road north of Churchmans Road in the right lane when a pedestrian suddenly ran east across the lanes of traffic and into the path of the oncoming tractor trailer.

The 53-year-old unidentified truck driver was unable to avoid a collision and struck the pedestrian before bringing his truck to a stop near the left shoulder.

The 55-year-old man was transported to a nearby hospital in serious condition. His name has not been released, reported First State Update.

Several southbound lanes on Stanton Christiana Road were shut down for two hours as officials investigated the incident. The lanes have since been reopened.

The pedestrian has been cited for crossing at other than a cross walk and failing to yield right of way to vehicles outside of a crosswalk area.
