
A portion of Interstate 24 was reopened Monday afternoon following a fatal crash involving multiple tractor trailers and passenger vehicles that injured at least seven.
The accident happened on February 5th at approximately 9:50 a.m. near Hopkinsville, Kentucky.
According to the Kentucky State Police, the collision occurred on the westbound side of I-24 near mile marker 79 and involved two semi trucks and at least seven other vehicles, closing both sides of I-24 due to the accident.
One person died and seven people were injured in the incident, one of which had to be flown to a hospital due to the seriousness of their injuries. Their identities have not been released.
A detour was set up at the 83 mile marker, redirecting traffic to the Pennyrile Parkway, then to US Highway 68, before returning to I-24 at exit 65, reported WKMS.
As of 3:00 p.m., both eastbound lanes of I-24 were open, but the two westbound lanes remain blocked, and are expected to reopen by 8:00 p.m. on Monday evening.
