One person is dead after an SUV hauling a U-Haul trailer drove into a closed lane early Friday morning, and crashed into a semi truck that was part of a construction crew.

It happened in the northbound lanes of Interstate 25, north of the E-470 interchange outside of Adams County, Colorado at approximately 4:30 a.m.

According to local ABC-7 news, a 28-year-old was driving his SUV north on I-25 when he entered a lane closed for road work. The SUV driver apparently did not see the tractor trailer parked in the middle of the highway for construction work and slammed into the back of the rig. The impact crushed the entire front end of the SUV.

The driver of the SUV was killed in the accident.

The trucker was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

The interstate was backed up for 7 miles while crews cleaned up the roadway and was reopened around 9 a.m.

The names of the drivers have not yet been released.

Police are still investigating whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident.
