There are a plethora of external forces that seems to plague the trucking industry as of late: increased regulations, dwindling public perception, negative media representation, and others.
However, one truck driver/filmmaker says there IS something that we can control in order to improve the industry from within. Restore the once great camaraderie that was shared among fellow drivers.
Tex Crowley, describes the brotherhood that was once present among drivers, but has diminished over the last few decades. He hopes to change that with his recent video.
In his video, #FIXTRUCKING, Tex explains some of the simple things we can do to help each other out.
One of his recommendations is when you see a rookie who’s confused and doesn’t know what he/she is doing, don’t point and laugh, go over and lend a hand.
Another point he makes: when you grab a cup of coffee and a bite to eat at a truck stop, don’t sit there with your head down staring at your iPhone. Look up, make eye contact, if someone sits next to you offer to buy their coffee or start a conversation.
Tex has some great points this trucker PSA. Perhaps once we revitalize the industry from the inside, then outsiders’ perception of drivers will follow.
