A tractor trailer hauling potatoes overturned in a fiery fatal wreck early Monday morning.

It happened on October 9th in Lafayette, Louisiana, 50 miles west of Baton Rouge.

According to the Louisiana State Patrol, the tractor trailer was traveling east on Interstate 10 when the driver lost control for unknown reasons and overturned.

The force of the impact caused the semi truck to catch fire and scattered the load of potatoes across the highway, reported WGNO.

At least one person was killed in the accident.

As of 11:57 a.m., I-10 east remains closed as crews work to clean up the thousands of potatoes.

Traffic is being redirected to northbound Interstate 49 and then to eastbound US 190.
