An overturned semi truck shut down the Florida Turnpike Tuesday afternoon, causing major backups in the area.
The accident happened on August 7th in Miami, Florida.
According to CBS Local Miami, the semi truck was traveling north on the Florida Turnpike, otherwise known as State Route 91 north of Northwest 199th Street near Hard Rock Stadium when, for reasons that have not been released, it crashed, causing the big rig to overturn and crushing the cab of the truck.
Emergency personnel then utilized the “jaws of life” to pry apart the truck’s wrecked cab and pulled the truck driver from the rig, but he was already deceased.
Officials quickly placed the body on a stretcher and covered it with a tarp. The driver’s identity has not yet been released.
As of 1:00 p.m., all northbound lanes of the Florida Turnpike are closed between Northwest 27th Avenue and Northwest 27th Avenue as officials work to clear the wreckage and investigate the incident. There is no estimated time of reopening.
Drivers are urged to avoid the area until further notice.
