Nearly 16 tons of beef roasts were trashed in a landfill in South Dakota recently after the big rig hauling the meat overturned, spilling its load.
The accident happened on August 27th near Summit, South Dakota.
According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, the semi truck hauling 31,000 pounds of beef roasts was traveling along Highway 12, 3 miles west of Summit, when another semi hauling paper products pulled onto the highway from a side street and into the path of the oncoming beef truck, causing a collision that ripped open the first semi truck and sent beef scattering across the roadway.
The beef truck driver was transported to the hospital with minor injuries, but the second truck driver was not hurt. It is not clear whether either driver will be cited for the incident.
Upon cleanup of the scene, officials decided the best course of action would be to dispose of the meaty mess, so all of the nearly 16 tons of beef were taken to a landfill.
