A man was killed Sunday after a loose metal wind skirt crashed through his windshield.
The accident happened on Sunday, October 21st in Knoxville, Tennessee.
According to WATE News, 71-year-old Mark Elliot was driving along Interstate 40 west near the Cedar Bluff exit ramp when, allegedly, a metal wind skirt from a semi truck came crashing through the driver’s side window, killing the driver.
The passengers in the car were then able to pull the car over to the shoulder where it rolled to a stop on its own.
Elliot was pronounced dead on scene but none of the other passengers in the car were hurt.
“We don’t know if that wind skirt came free from a vehicle as it was traveling eastbound or if it had been on the interstate previously and had been struck by another vehicle causing it to be thrown into the westbound lane,” said Darrell Debusk of the Knoxville Police Department.
Police believe that the vehicle was hit with the stray wind skirt at around 10:45 a.m. near the Walker Springs overpass and exit ramps. Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to call the KPD Hit and Run Office at (865)-215-7370.
