A motorist is dead after slamming into the back of a parked semi truck early on Friday morning.

The accident happened on March 16th at approximately 2:00 a.m. in Federal Way, Washington.

According to KOMO News, the trucker had pulled his rig onto the shoulder of southbound Interstate 5 south of State Route 18 to update his log books and charge his cell phone when he was struck from behind by a sedan. The force of the impact sent the car partially underneath the parked tractor trailer, destroying its front end. The trucker then called 911 to alert authorities and paramedics of the incident.

The 24-year-old unnamed motorist was killed in the crash, but the truck driver was unhurt.

The crash forced the closure of southbound I-5 near State Road 18, but the roadway has since been reopened.

Police say that the unidentified truck driver was parked legally at the time of the crash, and that the incident is still under investigation.
