Police say a motorist will be cited after leaving their lane, causing a wreck that sent a semi truck careening off the highway and into a house.

The accident occurred on Tuesday, January 23rd at approximately 11:55 a.m. in Harrison County, Ohio.

According to WTOV 9, a motorist in a Honda sedan was traveling westbound on US 250 when it left its lane, moving into the way of a semi truck travelling eastbound. The tractor trailer was unable to avoid a wreck with the car, and the two vehicles collided, sending the big rig off the highway and into the side of a nearby house.

The motorist was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital while the unidentified truck driver was transported via ambulance to a hospital nearby. Their conditions are not clear.

There was one occupant inside of the house at the time of the accident but she was able to escape the house uninjured.

“What we’re gathering so far is the Honda was traveling westbound on U.S. 250 and the semi was heading eastbound, and (the car) was left of center – you can clearly see the marks… The Honda was struck by the semi, which then traveled off the road and struck a nearby house,” said Lt. Joe Fetty of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

A portion of US 250 was shut down while crews worked to remove the big rig from inside the house without toppling the structure.

“We’ve got a little bit of concern. There’s very substantial damage to the back of the house,” Fetty said.

The accident has since been cleared and the truck, removed.

Police say the unnamed motorist will be cited.
