Drivers traveling between Nebraska and Iowa will face a 74-mile detour as the Missouri River Bridge at Decatur will be closed for nearly a month.
The bridge was closed on Monday, August 14th and will remain closed through September 11th.
The bridge will be closed for a total of 28 days while the $7.7 million dollar construction project improves abutments on either end of the bridge.
The 60-year-old Missouri River Bridge connects Nebraska Highway 51 in Decatur, Nebraska, to Iowa Highway 175 in Onawa, Iowa.
According to the Nebraska Department of Transportation, the extensive detour will take driver along U.S. 75, Interstate 129, Interstate 29, and Highway 175 and will take approximately 2 hours. NDOT suggests that drivers “plan ahead!”
The closure has been scheduled to avoid farming seasons as the bridge lies on a popular route for large trucks aiding with the planting and harvesting seasons of the local area.
Anyone with questions regarding the closure is urged to call the District 3 Office at (402)-370-3470.
