Memphis man Keith Austin, the gunman in the 2014 shooting of FedEx driver Edwin Ray, was sentenced to 26 years in prison Wednesday.
Austin was convicted on charges of attempted second degree murder, aggravated assault and discharging a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony. Austin was given 16 and 10 year sentences for each, which are to be served consecutively.
The shooting happened back on December 18, 2014 in Memphis, Tennessee.
According to Fox-13 News, Ray was on duty as a FedEx truck driver when he noticed an unknown man driving a van acting aggressively and pointing at him. As Ray pulled truck away from a stop sign, traveling East on Holmes road, he heard a loud bang and realized that he had been shot in the legs.
Witnesses reported seeing a man shoot at the driver’s side of the FedEx truck with an AK-47, and were able to record the plate number. Upon recovery, Ray identified Austin in a lineup.
Austin was initially accused of a more serious charge of attempted first degree murder but the decision was made to reduce the charge to attempted second degree murder.
