A sedan drove into the back of a tractor trailer late Monday night, killing the motorist.
It happened outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at approximately 11:15 p.m. on Monday, June 5th.
According to WPXI, the semi truck and the sedan were driving outbound on Parkway East near the Squirrel Hill Tunnel when the Subaru sedan crashed into the back of the truck, wedging the car underneath the trailer.
Initial reports indicated that distracted driving may have been a factor in the crash.
The car was crushed in the impact, killing the 28-year-old male driver.
47-year-old Ohio truck driver Daniel Weaver was not injured in the accident.
Traffic was blocked until 2:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.
The traffic disruption also caused a minor wreck on the opposite side of the highway. Police say “rubber necking” led to the secondary crash.
Weaver was not found to be at fault in the accident.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the collision.
