Drivers are experiencing major backups on the Pennsylvania Turnpike Thursday after a semi truck overturned onto a concrete barrier, splitting open the cab.

The accident happened on April 19th at approximately 12:30 p.m. in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.

According to Trib Live News, the semi truck was traveling on the Pennsylvania Turnpike near milepost 69.8 west of the New Stanton interchange when, for unknown reasons, the rig overturned, landing on top of a concrete barrier and splitting open the cab of the truck.

The unnamed truck driver was flown to a nearby hospital, but the extent of his injuries have not been released. The incident is still under investigation.

At 1:00 p.m., the Pennsylvania Turnpike was down to one lane in both directions with no estimated time of reopening.
