The Iowa DOT recently posted this clip, showing a failed merge at the Interstate 35/US 30 interchange.
The clip shows a car merging directly onto the left lane and into the path of an oncoming tractor trailer. The semi truck swerves but is unable to avoid the car.
Iowa DOT posted the following message with the video.
Video from our 511 traffic cameras at the I-35/U.S. 30 interchange shows what can happen when you don’t merge at an appropriate speed and yield to oncoming traffic.
Kudos to the truck driver who handled a very scary situation so well. Good news is both vehicles came to a relatively gentle stop, which can be seen in the second video.
The car was driven by a 16-year-old from Roland, Iowa. There were two other children in the car at the time of the crash. No one was seriously hurt.
“This video is a great example of how a normal, everyday drive, could turn into a bad situation very quickly,” a DOT spokeswoman added.
