A trucker is being called a hero for rescuing a woman from her burning vehicle after she crashed head on into the back of his fuel truck.

It happened on November 9th at approximately 2 p.m. in Manchester, New York.

According to MPN Now, the propane fuel truck was parked on the side of Armington Road filling up propane tanks at a nearby home when a woman crashed her vehicle into the back of it. The force of the impact caused an explosion, setting the motorist’s car on fire.

The trucker then rushed to the burning car and pulled the woman from the fiery wreckage, dragging her across the road, a safe distance away from the fire before phoning 911.

“That car was totally engulfed in flames,” said State Trooper Mark O’Donnell.

“He did a heckuva job getting the operator out of that car…I gotta give him a lot of credit for doing that very heroic act in very trying circumstances… The heroic acts of the propane delivery driver should not go unnoticed.”

The unidentified woman was life flighted to a nearby hospital with “major burns” over most of her body, reported Democrat and Chronicle.

The truck driver, whose name has not been released, suffered only very minor injuries in the incident, but the reason for the crash is still unclear.

“I don’t think it was sun glare or sun related,” O’Donnell continued.

“For whatever reason, the vehicle drove into the back of the propane truck. We’re not exactly sure why it happened.”

Armington Road was closed between Route 21 and Stafford Road for several hours as crews worked to put out the fire and clear the debris from the roadway. It has since been reopened.
