A truck driver in Germany heroically drove a burning tanker truck away from town in order to protect residents from a possible explosion.

It happened earlier this week in the town of Schrobenhausen, Germany.

According to RT, the truck driver was driving near Schrobenhausen when he noticed his tanker was on fire.

As the 2,650 gallons continued to burn, the driver called emergency services and was given a route to drive the tanker out of town and into a rural area.

Authorities and the truck driver agreed that the less inhabited area would make a better spot to fight the flames, due to the risk of explosion.

100 firefighters followed the trucker as he drove out of town and away from the densely populated area.

The fire crews were able to extinguish the fire and the truck driver was able to escape before any explosions could occur.

There were no injuries reported in the fiery event.

Officials believe that the fire was sparked by a tire blowout on the rig.
