A Kansas City man is making it his mission to shed light on the dangers of the area along I-70 nicknamed, “Suicide Curve.”
Leo Eilts has brought media attention to “the curve” by catching collisions on film and uploading them to YouTube.
One of his videos recently captured a crash involving a semi. The incident occurred on May 8th around 2:30 p.m.
In the video, it appears to be a foggy day with slick roads from oncoming rain. Cars are seen driving carefully around the highway’s sharp curves, with headlights shining on the hazardous road.
Next, a semi is seen charging down the road. When the driver takes a quick turn on the sharp and slick curve, the semi topples over, striking the side of the highway and lands on its side.
In his video‘s description, the YouTuber notes:
“Never underestimate the Curve.”
Leo Eilts has lived in Kansas City for 10 years and he claims he has seen at least a half a dozen crashes each year.
Eilts has the perfect view for filming the Suicide Curve from his home in the Strawberry Hill district.
“It’s like the Indianapolis 500, except with bigger cars,” Eilts told KSBH.
Ever since he started capturing the crashes on video, Eilts states that he has been writing letters along with the footage to the Kansas Department of Transportation.
However, he has yet to hear back about the problem. He hopes that something will be done soon to prevent future catastrophe.
