A family nurse practitioner was detained Wednesday after firing shots near a Flying J truck stop.

The incident happened at around 8:00 p.m. on September 26th in Laredo, Texas.

According to KGNS News, 44-year-old Jose Luis Milera began firing shots near the Flying J off of Interstate 35, eventually entering the nearby clinic where he worked.

The clinic and Flying J were evacuated.

Police were called, along with a SWAT team and negotiators, and Milera began shooting at the officers, but together they were able to detain the man before anyone was hurt.

Officers say that Milera was in “an altered emotional state” when he was arrested, though the reason for his distress is still not clear.
